Boston, MA (Vocus) November 11, 2010
New England College of Business (NECB) and Politécnico Grancolombiano (PG) of Bogota, Colombia announced today an alliance to offer a dual enrollment program resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from NECB and a licentiatura in international business from PG.
The partnership was formed in response to the demand for US education, particularly focused on banking and finance, throughout Latin America. The growing affluence of Colombia's middle class is enabling an increasing number of Colombian students to attend college and seek education abroad. NECB delivers expanded access to Colombians seeking a US business degree by offering all college courses online. As more and more multi-national corporations expand their footprint across the emerging Latin America markets, the demand for a US business education is high. The ability to provide Colombian business students with a strong understanding of the US accounting regulations, best practices in business principles, marketing programs, and management strategies will enhance their job prospects in today's global economy.
NECB and PG both have long histories in the banking and finance industry. Founded in 1909, NECB maintains its roots in educating business, banking, and financial services professionals and has expanded its offering to include degrees from Associate's through Master's Degrees online. Founded more than 30 years ago, PG is one of the most recognized educational institutions in Colombia. With more than 14,000 students, PG offers high quality education to Colombians nationwide. PG, offers more than 35 degree programs and delivers more than 15 in an online format. With these shared values and knowledge, it was exciting to bring these two organizations together to form a double degree alliance.
The alliance between New England College of Business and Politecnico Grancolombiano allows an undergraduate business student to be enrolled in both colleges, simultaneously. In PG's traditional four year business program, students will take select courses from NECB online and have the opportunity to transfer in other courses from PG. By following an established degree map, a PG student will be able to earn two degrees, and save significant tuition expense. PG students will need to meet NECB admissions requirements, including a TOEFL score of 500.
What makes the program even more attractive is NECB's online learning platform, Epic. PG students will have the opportunity to take courses online, and complete all coursework, without leaving Colombia. One of Epic's unique features is that it allows students to download coursework and complete offline, then upload completed work back to their professor. Although access to the Internet is growing across Latin America, the ability to work offline will make this double degree option attractive to more of PG's student population.
Pablo Michelson, Rector of PG, commented, "We are very excited about this new alliance with the New England College of Business. Our student population is growing more than 30% per year, and providing our students with an opportunity to earn a degree from a high quality, regionally accredited college from the United States, will continue to position PG and our business school as a leading international business college."
Emily Knight, who is leading this effort for NECB, stated, "We could not be more excited about this new partnership. The demand for US education in Latin America continues to grow. This alliance allows us to not only participate, but to also provide an international learning experience for our current US based students. Through our Epic learning management system, NECB students will now have the opportunity to learn alongside students from Colombia as well as with students from other parts of the world. Learning US business theory is important; however, learning from the shared experience of students from different cultures will provide a rich and rewarding educational experience."
