Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 15, 2010
Archipelago Learning, (NASDAQ:ARCL) a leading subscription-based online education company and developer of Study Island, has selected Kentucky’s Atkinson Academy in Jefferson County as the recipient of the Study Island School of Excellence award.
Principal of Atkinson Academy Dr. Dewey Hensley and faculty will receive the award at a reception held at the school Nov. 22. Wendy Fischer, regional sales director for Study Island and Pat Ryan, Kentucky account executive for Study Island, will present the award.
The Study Island School of Excellence award recognizes schools that have improved their state Academic Performance Index (API) while using Study Island programs. These schools use a comprehensive strategy to lead them above and beyond their achievement goals and individual student success.
"Study Island has played a significant role in increasing student achievement at Atkinson,” said Principal Hensley. “It is not only engaging and motivating for students, it has helped teachers target clear learning goals for individual students and even entire classes. It has helped teachers develop a progression mindset and use technology to extend instruction, curriculum and assessment outside the classroom walls."
“We are thrilled to honor Atkinson Academy with the Study Island School of Excellence award,” said Wendy Fischer, Study Island Midwest Regional Sales Manager. “Study Island and Atkinson Academy have partnered together since 2006 to create measurable improvements in student achievement, and we are proud to honor Dr. Hensley, his dedicated staff, and the families of Atkinson Academy for their dedication to educational excellence.”
Used by millions of students in schools across the United States, Study Island combines rigorous content in math, reading, writing, science and social studies with engaging, interactive features that reinforce and reward student accomplishments. With real-time reporting on student achievement, teachers can easily differentiate instruction to address learning gaps and help students prepare for state assessments. Study Island’s educational programs are built directly from each state’s specific learning standards as well as the new Common Core Standards and create a fun, engaging experience for students and teachers alike.
Shortly after his arrival at Atkinson Academy in 2006, Principal Hensley purchased a Study Island subscription. Since then the school’s CATS/KCCT scores have consistently increased. In recent years Atkinson was one of the few schools in Jefferson County that saw test scores rise in every subject. In addition, Atkinson met all of its goals under the federal No Child Left Behind law.
