Weaver Multimedia Group and The MeNetwork announced a partnership that will bring SMS (short message service) marketing capabilities to Convention & Visitors Bureau and Destination Marketing Organizations across North America. SMS text messaging allows advertisers the ability to reach visitors and locals on the go. The result is a valuable offer to the consumer and a simple and measurable tool for advertisers.

Weaver Multimedia Group President & CEO, Peter Koclanes, described SMS marketing as, “A vital channel of communication. We see a lot of applications in our industry including yet another way to reach leisure visitors and convention delegates in market. And for the merchants, this means a direct way to track the financial impact of visitors.”

To use MeNet, simply tell it—via a short text message—where you are and what you're looking for. The software performs a quick search and delivers special offers and deals back to your phone (again via text message) within a few seconds. MeNetwork creator Michael “Spike” Stevens says that the ease of use is a big selling point. "Everyone is building apps for specific smart phones, but that just complicates what should be a simple process. We wanted to use a technology that everyone has access to and already knows how to use, and that's what led us to text messaging. Learning that 99% of North American mobile phones are text-enabled sealed it for us as our technology backbone. Then the challenge became making the text interaction as simple as possible, which is how we came up with 'tell it where you are and what you want'. People love that just by texting 'denver happy hour' or 'sf seafood', you can find out where the best deals are in your city within seconds. It honestly couldn't be easier."

Koclanes is optimistic that the partnership will see lasting success. “We were so impressed with the technology and the MeNetwork team that we wanted to invest—in the company and in the people.” SMS promotions will soon be evident in and around Weaver partner markets, starting with the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau.
