More than 25 students from George Fox University will spend their break helping others in two Northwest locations

Twenty-nine George Fox University students will join employee volunteers on service trips to two Northwest locations during the first week of January.

Two teams will go out as part of the university’s 20th annual winter serve program. Faculty, staff and alumni will lead students to Tacoma, Wash., and Rockaway Beach, Ore.

Participating students pay part of the trip costs, and the remainder is subsidized by the student government. A student committee plans, organizes, and implements both the university’s winter and spring serve trips.

Fifteen students will go to Tacoma, Wash., to serve at the Tacoma Rescue Mission. They will also visit various ministries and organizations in the Tacoma area. Meanwhile, 14 students will go to Twin Rocks, Ore., to serve in whatever projects and tasks are needed to keep the Twin Rocks Conference Center running.

The trips are part of the university’s commitment to Christian service, which also includes an annual day of service for which the university closes; community service projects that reach out to Newberg, Ore., and surrounding communities; and an urban services program that sends students to Portland and Salem, Ore., to build relationships with the homeless.

George Fox University is ranked by Forbes as one of the top 100 colleges in the country and highest among Christian colleges. George Fox is the only Christian university in the Pacific Northwest classified by U.S. News & World Report as a national university. More than 3,300 students attend classes on the university’s campus in Newberg, Ore., and at teaching centers in Portland, Salem, and Redmond, Ore., and Boise, Idaho. George Fox offers bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 majors, degree-completion programs for working adults, five seminary degrees, and 12 master’s and doctoral degrees.
