Food Allergies Don't Keep Children from Visiting Theme Park

When children have life-threatening food allergies, parents can be very hesitant to eat out. With that in mind, Holiday World has added to their "allergen-friendly" menu so that children with food allergies can enjoy pizza, chicken nuggets and corn dogs right along with their brothers and sisters while visiting the Santa Claus, Indiana, theme and water park.

We started offering special menu items for our guests with food allergies a few years ago

Families visiting Holiday World & Splashin' Safari next season will be able to enjoy meals together, even when one of the family members has severe food allergies or other strict dietary needs.

Several of the park’s restaurants offer an expanded menu of pre-packaged food items which do not contain eight of the most common food allergens, namely: wheat, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, milk, soy and eggs.

“We started offering special menu items for our guests with food allergies a few years ago,” says Holiday World & Splashin' Safari’s president, Dan Koch. “We heard from so many families who were thrilled to spend a day at our park without worrying about food allergies that we decided to add some vegetarian and sugar-free items, too.”

Pizza, chicken nuggets, and turkey corn dogs which do not contain the most common food allergens are available at Kringle’s Kafé and Safari Pizza; those restaurants also have designated equipment for preparing gluten-free and dairy-free items. In addition, the park offers gluten-free sandwich bread. Pre-packaged applesauce and fruit cups are offered as an option to fries.

For dessert, snickerdoodle cookies which are free of the most common food allergens are available. Gluten- and wheat-free brownies are offered at Plymouth Rock Café and Mrs. Klaus’ Kitchen. In addition, two types of dairy-free ice cream bars plus soy milk are now available.

Vegetarian selections added to the parks’ menus include veggie burgers, pasta salad, and fettuccine alfredo. Sugar-free ice cream and sucrose-free fudge will also be available.

A list of allergen-friendly items is available on the “Food & Restaurants” page at Holiday World’s website. Park guests may also speak with a member of the food department’s management with questions about ingredients in the restaurants’ food items.
