This marks the first time a digital good 'made' on Facebook can be transformed into a real-world item and signals an important milestone in merging the virtual and real worlds
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) November 16, 2010
PlayFirst® Inc., a leading publisher of engaging interactive entertainment, today announced it is partnering with award-winning artisan chocolatier Charles Chocolates to not only bring exclusive Charles Chocolates recipes to its popular Facebook game Chocolatier®: Sweet Society, but once players have made the chocolates in-game, they can opt to purchase their real-world equivalency. This first-of-its-kind partnership will add five unique Charles Chocolates confection recipes to the game. Once unlocked, the recipes can be created in the player's virtual factory and then ordered online and delivered right to their door or sent as a gift to the recipient of their choice.
"This marks the first time a digital good 'made' on Facebook can be transformed into a real-world item and signals an important milestone in merging the virtual and real worlds," said Eric Hartness, Vice President and General Manager of social games at PlayFirst. "We think players will really enjoy converting their in-game sweets into scrumptious treats from Charles Chocolates."
"Charles Chocolates and Chocolatier: Sweet Society are both about creating fine artisan chocolates in an epicurean environment," said Chuck Siegel, founder of Charles Chocolates. "Now we are giving virtual crafters of fine chocolate confectionary a direct line to our factory kitchen, transforming one-of-kind in-game recipes into delicious morsels that can be savored at home."
Set in San Francisco in 1882, Chocolatier: Sweet Society puts players in charge of a chocolate factory and storefront to build and manage their own personal chocolate empire on Facebook. The game builds on the heralded Chocolatier franchise by taking players behind the scenes to create an assortment of delectable confections using factory machines, unlocking the Baumeister's secret family recipes as they advance. At the same time, players decorate and manage their shoppe for the ultimate opulent chocolate experience. The new Grand Voyages feature recently expanded the game by taking players outside the shoppe to gather scrumptious ingredients from around the world.
Charles Chocolates confections are made by hand in small batches using traditional, artisanal techniques, and the finest ingredients, including some of the world's best chocolates, organic herbs, fruits, and nuts as well as organic cream and butter. The five mouthwatering Charles Chocolate recipes selected for Chocolatier: Sweet Society include Jasmine Tea Truffle, Raspberry Heart Truffle, Milk Chocolate Peanut Butterfly, Toasted Almond Cluster and Classic Fleur de Sel Caramel. The only way to get a gift box with these five recipes together is by unlocking them in gameplay and then ordering them through the game interface. The special Chocolatier: Sweet Society box, which can be ordered as a box of 10 for $20.00 (plus shipping) or a box of 20 for $35.00 (plus shipping), can be sent to the player's address or to friends and family.
