Leading Boomer, Aging Experts Scheduled to Come Together to Discuss the Changing Roles of Aging in Today’s Digital World and Showcase Products Serving the Mature Market

Growing aging populations and increased life expectancies are impacting communities around the globe. Hit hardest by this “Silver Tsunami” are Baby Boomers, an estimated 78 million people in the U.S. (450 million worldwide), born between 1946 and 1964. The 3rd Annual Silvers Summit at the 2011 International CES (Saturday, January 8, 2011 – Las Vegas Convention Center, LVCC North Hall, N253) will address the catalysts driving changes in the way consumers age 43 and up manage aging for themselves, family members, friends and/or loved ones, and showcase the products meeting the growing needs of the mature market.

“Technology is enabling today’s aging population to stay engaged, entertained and connected in ways like we’ve never seen,” said Susan Ayers, co-founder and managing director of the SmartSilvers Alliance and co-producer of Silvers Summit. “Whether they’re playing games to keep the mind sharp, visiting with grandchildren via video conferencing, or navigating the back roads in their GPS-enabled SUVs, this generation is maximizing the benefits of the digital age.”

Hitting their peak both in earning potential and spending ability, many companies are asking what products and services will this group want and need to manage the crisis. Back for a third year, Silvers Summit will bring together companies, distributors, journalists, research firms, and think tanks, to discuss the trends, and showcase the products and services that will help mature consumers maintain their high quality of life.

Silvers Summit is pleased to announce the support of its world class sponsors. UnitedHealth Group has joined Silvers Summit at the 2011 International CES as platinum sponsors, and MyGait, Myine Electronics®, the Quality of Life Technology (QoLT) Center, and Telikin as gold sponsors. They join the more than 22 sponsors and media partners that have pledged their support of the summit.

This year’s Silvers Summit has brought together an impressive line-up of speakers, including:

  •     Welcome keynote from one of America's leading neuroscientists, Dr. Gary Small from the UCLA Center of Aging. Dr. Small will share insights around the presence of technology, including today’s popular gadgets, mobile devices and search engines, in the evolution of the human brain.
  •     Dr. Richard Migliori, executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group will deliver the afternoon keynote, which will examine how seniors and family caregivers use – and could use – mobile communications and other information technologies, and introduce a panel discussion on the findings from a new caregiving study, Caregiving and Technology, conducted in partnership with the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC).

Additionally, experts and notables, including TV personality Gary Kaye, Mike Starling with NPR, former athlete and Sendero founder and CEO Michael Mays, and Gail Hunt, CEO for the National Caregiver Alliance, will participate in seven additional sessions, including:

  •     What Boomers Buy and Why
  •     Gadgets Can Drive You Nuts!
  •     Breaking Barriers - Universal Design
  •     Creating Smart Aware Home
  •     Intelligent Systems for Caring
  •     Secret: High Touch Customer Service
  •     Introducing The AgeTek Alliance

The Silvers Summit exhibit hall (open January 6 – 9, 2011) will complement the one-day event and showcase companies developing products that deliver quality-of-lifestyle to adults ages 43 and up, and empower their elderly parents with greater independence. Products highlights include: lifestyle, cool gadgets, trends, universal design, smart homes, caregiving, high-touch service technologies and more.
