OpenDNS, the world’s largest and fastest-growing provider of Internet navigation and security services that make networks safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced the City of New Iberia has chosen OpenDNS for cloud-based Web content filtering and simplified multi-site management. The City of New Iberia is located in southern Louisiana and has a population of approximately 33,000 residents.
Prior to deploying OpenDNS, the City of New Iberia did not have any Web content filtering set up for its 100 workstations. Employees were able to access bandwidth heavy websites and other types of Web content that wasn’t appropriate for a workplace settings. Chuck Grubb, IT Manager for the City, received a suggestion for OpenDNS from a colleague and decided to test it out for himself. Once he deployed it, he knew he’d found the right solution.
“I did not consider any other Web content filtering services,” he said. “OpenDNS is easy to use and does everything I need it to do.”
Today, OpenDNS is set up on a squid proxy server for the city and is filtering Web content accessed by City of New Iberia employees. An additional benefit of OpenDNS is that Grubb can easily change the Web content filtering settings for one network without changing those of another. Updating settings requires only Web access, not an on-site visit as with a traditional Web content filtering appliance. Grubb said he expects OpenDNS to save the City of New Iberia money thanks to the increased productivity from city employees.
“OpenDNS has been everything I needed and expected,” he said. “The interface is easy to use. The service is great.”
OpenDNS is the world's leading provider of Internet navigation and security services that make networks safer, faster, smarter and more reliable. Through DNS resolution, cloud-based Web content filtering and security services, OpenDNS empowers millions of households, schools and businesses to control how users navigate the Internet on their network, while dramatically increasing the network's overall performance and reliability.
