Help The Land of Nod and No Kid Hungry Take a Bite Out of Childhood Hunger in America

The Land of Nod teams up with No Kid Hungry in an effort to end childhood hunger in America.

Most of us are lucky. We only fight over food in our houses when it comes to the last slice of pizza. But the sad truth is nearly 17 million American kids don't have enough to eat.

That's why The Land of Nod is proud to announce our partnership with No Kid Hungry. We're teaming up to get the word out and raise funds in the fight to help ensure no kids in this country go hungry again.

The mission of No Kid Hungry is to end childhood hunger by 2015. Children who struggle with hunger are sick more often, recover more slowly and are more likely to be hospitalized. They're more likely to experience headaches, stomachaches, colds, ear infections and fatigue, and are more susceptible to obesity and its harmful health consequences as both children and adults.

Undernourished children are also impacted in school as their brain and nervous system can be impaired by hunger. They also have significantly higher levels of behavioral, emotional and academic problems and show increased aggression and anxiety. Hungry children lack the energy to handle complex social interactions or adapt effectively to environmental stresses.

Over the next 12 months, The Land of Nod has pledged to do our part in helping the No Kid Hungry campaign's four key points:

1.    Creating public-private partnerships at the state level to break down barriers that prevent kids from accessing the food they need.
2.    Feeding hungry kids where they live, learn and play. In 2009, thanks to a lot of teamwork, No Kid Hungry helped provide 4.5 million more meals to needy children.
3.    Educating children and families about nutrition and healthy eating. Through Share Our Strength's Operation Frontline®, nearly 60,000 families have been reached, spreading knowledge on how to budget for groceries and cook great tasting, nutritious foods.
4.    Building awareness of the childhood hunger crisis and a drive for change among all Americans. Using as many channels as possible, we're making No Kid Hungry a shared national priority.

The Land of Nod has dedicated 11 products whose sales will result in percentage being donated to the campaign. We will also be taking donations in all of The Land of Nod stores, at landofnod.com and through text message. Just text "Nod" to 20222. We've also committed to raising local awareness through special events, volunteer activities and other programs throughout the next 12 months.
