November 19, 2010 -- It was a small crowd of industry and media who gathered together last week at a private screening to view Kathi Carey’s award-winning film WORTH, which has been submitted to AMPAS for the 2011 Oscar race. What they saw surprised and delighted them. Says Dennis Stafford, Principal of Organiksol Marketing, “I was profoundly moved by Kathi’s film. I came to the screening as a blank slate, but left reminded of the real power great filmmakers have to educate and inspire, as well as entertain. WORTH is a powerful film that should be seen by all.” Tina Grey, of Grey Worldwide Press says, “Kathi Carey is amazingly talented. WORTH was written in 1 hour. Wow! Watching this film I was taken to another world, the world of Kathi Carey’s genius imagination. The music – incredible – David is an extraordinary composer.” And Sue Cornick, publicist, says, “I thought WORTH truly told a complete story in such a small amount of time, while piquing our interest enough to wish there was the luxury of time to get the characters’ back stories. Every detail was used to the fullest in a perfectly subtle way.”
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening came right before the Q&A with Ms. Carey herself. Isaac Burks, Deputy of Arts and Culture, Council District 4 of the Los Angeles City Council, presented Ms. Carey with the City of Los Angeles' Certificate of Recognition for her intense devotion to bringing so many projects to life for all in the City of Los Angeles. They called her, “… an Angel in the City of Angels.” Ms. Carey called it the highlight of her journey with this film, which has included screening at 31 film festivals all over the world and winning 31 awards.
WORTH … a short film that has as its central theme “you can’t judge a book by its cover.”
