With the 4th quarter of 2010 half over, marketing budgets loosen, Joseph Merritt & Company ( has answered the call to offer complete in-house Direct Marketing solutions with the acquisition of a variety of essential printing, mailing, and finishing equipment.

“We’ve offered all of these 'new' solutions to our clients in the past, but now we offer a true 'under-one-roof' solution that is extremely efficient for us and our clients,” proclaims Ed Perry, President & CEO. With the addition of mailing insertion, UV coating, and 4 color variable envelope printing, Merritt adds to its already abundant arsenal of printing and finishing equipment. “We’re known to consistently be on the forefront of technology acquisitions, but we never frivolously spend capital on items we don’t think can benefit our client base. We know these new machines will allow us to offer a broader overall solution to our clients.”

To one’s surprise, the total spend of direct mail is steady—52% of all mail is direct mail, according to DMA research, 3rd year in a row over 50%. Is that enough reason for the ramp up of equipment acquisitions? “There is an increased need for targeted and personalized direct mail solutions for our clients,” Perry noted. Merritt has offered personalized printing (or variable data printing) to its clients for a number of years. "To efficiently fulfill the orders coming in, we had to make the obvious decision to meet the demands of our clients specific and custom production needs."

As the end of the year quickly approaches, Merritt is starting to see clients spending more within its Digital Solutions division. “It has been a rocky 18 months; companies in our industry have unfortunately closed their doors, while other few continue to reinvent how they do business. We are one of those few doing just that,” adds Perry.
