VCPI announces the launch of two new services to help providers of post-acute care execute strategic management of emails, particularly in light of an increasingly litigious industry. The first service addresses the need to mitigate what can be discovered in a legal inquiry. Without protection, all emails may be discoverable. The cost of producing emails is colossal and can often outweigh the damages sought in a suit. Any email prior to a policy date, for example, could be discoverable in litigation—forever.

The second service helps manage encryption so sensitive information can be safely and securely communicated using email. Encryption can be triggered by key words or functional roles in order to automate an otherwise cumbersome process.

Over half a billion people in global business rely on email every day , but when email is used in healthcare, special steps are necessary to help providers comply with privacy regulations as well as mitigate legal discovery. With the introduction of these two new services, providers gain more oversight and control of the increasingly complex process of managing emails in post-acute care.

With respect to both services, VCPI will work in concert with a client’s legal counsel to help customize policies, build programs, and train staff. According to Loren Claypool, vice president and managing director of VCPI, “encryption and discovery protection come at a critical time for providers, in order to balance convenience with security. These solutions simplify complex business problems so clients can focus on delivering the high quality care on which their reputation depends.”
