It is exciting to lead this round of funding for New West because our investment strategy is about 'fishing where everyone else isn't' in places like Western Montana
Missoula, MT (PRWEB) November 23, 2010
New West, a next-generation media company dedicated to the culture, economy, politics and lifestyle of the Rocky Mountain West, announced today that it has closed a new round of financing and appointed veteran online media executive Lynn Ingham as its new CEO. The company is now well-positioned for a new phase of growth and aims to build on its long-standing mission of serving the Rocky Mountain West with innovative, participatory journalism that helps readers understand and make the most of the dramatic changes sweeping the region.
"It is exciting to lead this round of funding for New West because our investment strategy is about 'fishing where everyone else isn't' in places like Western Montana," said Trevor Loy, General Partner with Flywheel Ventures. "We continue to be impressed with the caliber of entrepreneurs we've found in Montana who, like Lynn, grew up here and have come back to create a vibrant entrepreneurial community. We look forward to working with more entrepreneurs from this region."
New West, founded in 2005 by Jonathan Weber, has been recognized as a national pioneer in next-generation journalism, winning numerous awards and establishing itself as an important voice across the Rocky Mountain West. The new funding will enable the company to develop new mobile offerings, expand its relationships with technology partners, and further develop its editorial offerings around culture and lifestyle.
"We are delighted to have secured the backing of such a great group of investors," said Ingham, a Butte, MT, native whose experience includes senior leadership positions with The Ad Age Group, Community Connect and Interactive One. "With the media world in a state of flux, we have a tremendous opportunity to build on what New West has accomplished to date and to further establish the site as an essential news and information source for Rocky Mountain residents and visitors."
"As soon as I met Lynn Ingham last fall, I knew she would be a perfect fit for New West," said Weber, who is now editor in chief of The Bay Citizen, an online news start-up serving the San Francisco Bay Area. "I'm thrilled to see the new team take the helm, and I'm confident they will bring the company to the next level."
Weber will join the new company's new board of directors, along with Ingham, Paula Marez of Flywheel Ventures, Albuquerque, and Clyde Neu of Flywheel Ventures, Missoula. Neu, a veteran entrepreneur and former professor at the University of Montana School of Business, will serve as chairman of the board.
