Ericsson Regains Market Leadership, 50-900Mb High Capacity Radios Capture 68% Market Share

The global point to point (PTP) radio market is tracking below current 2010 estimates, according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research titled “Global Digital PTP Radio Market Analysis, 1H 2010 1st Edition.” “The PTP radio market in 1H 2010 was impacted by the telecom shutdown in India in Q2 2010 and was at 42% of our overall shipment estimate for 2010,” says founder and President, Earl Lum. EJL Wireless Research is predicting that 2H 2010 PTP radio shipments may recover slightly but still miss its 2010 estimate.

Ericsson was the clear market share leader in 1H 2010 shipments with NEC in second. “Huawei Technologies continued to move up in the overall rankings to third while we have added ZTE Corporation into our analysis with a ninth ranked position,” says Lum.

“Weakness in both Asia Pacific and India has impacted global PTP radio shipments in 2010” says Lum. Europe was the largest region, edging out Asia Pacific, for 1H 2010 radio shipments. The 60/70/80GHz radio segment is trending strongly with BridgeWave Communications continuing to lead this emerging product segment in 1H 2010.

The report provides a unique perspective on the global shipments and demand for PTP radio equipment covering all major vendors including Alcatel-Lucent, Aviat Networks, BridgeWave Communications, Ceragon Networks, DragonWave, E-Band Communications, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, NEC, Nera Networks, Nokia Siemens Networks, SIAE Microelettronica and ZTE.
