The search to find the world’s best ironers has launched - Quickest Shirt, Quality of Finish and Style & Flair are all disciplines at the inaugural World Ironing Championships.
The championships, which are being sponsored by Morphy Richards, are being hosted on http://www.worldironingchampionships.com . Ironing specialists from across the globe, including police officers, fireman, ironing ladies and military personnel, are being challenged to send in a short film of their entry, which will be judged by the World Ironing ‘board’. The ‘board’ includes endurance world record holder Ben Walton, who successfully ironed 923 items in 60 hours two years ago. The winner of each category will walk away with a cash prize and a bespoke gold-plated iron.
Strict rules and criteria apply for the World Ironing Championships. The world’s fastest ironer (Quickest Shirt) will need to iron the whole shirt, including cuffs, collars and sleeves. For Quality of Finish, the judges will be looking for the crispest possible creases. The Style and Flair category requires entrants to be as creative as possible - additional points for costume and background will be added at the ‘boards’ discretion.
Mags Siddle, garment care category manager at Morphy Richards, said: “We understand that ironing isn’t everybody’s idea of a good time, however, we’re hoping that the World Ironing Championships will go some way to putting fun into a task that many see as a chore. If you think you’ve got the skills to be a world ironing champion then we really want to hear from you.”

Rules for the World Ironing Championships
Rules for the Quickest Shirt
The world’s fastest ironer needs to iron the whole shirt, including cuffs, collars and sleeves. We need to see that the shirt looks ironed and a clock or timer should be visible in the video. We won’t accept entries which have been edited to alter the speed of the film and the judges’ decision will be final.
Rules for Quality of Finish
The Judges will be looking for the smoothness of the finish and crispness of the creases in the cuffs and collars. Entrants must place the finished shirt on a hanger and show the camera the:
The judges will make a decision about the overall quality of the shirt placing equal importance to all five areas. Their decision will be final.
Rules for Style and Flair
When it comes to style, our judges will be looking for smoothness, the way you hold your iron and the way you move your body when ironing. Any additional style points like costume or background will also be taken into consideration.
Look like you’re having fun – the judges will be looking for someone who is enjoying their task.
Don’t forget the technique – you still need to iron a shirt with a smooth action and a touch of flair.
Also, be sensible as silly stunts or anything in bad taste will not be considered.
