Singer/songwriter Tom O’Connor is celebrating the release of his second full-length CD, Heart, Body & Soul, with shows around the northeast this week and next.
Based in Northern Virginia, O’Connor, a 27-year-old Binghamton, N.Y., native, is emerging as one of the Washington, D.C., area’s top singer/songwriters, with a sound that music critics have described as “pop-folk at its smoothest” and “reminiscent of Eric Clapton’s later solo work.” On Tap Magazine said of his 2008 debut CD, Frozen in Anticipation, “O’Connor’s vocals are beautiful, and at times, swooning laments that melt into fluid strumming and quivering string arrangements.” The single “Virginia Rain” received airplay on Washington, D.C.’s leading rock station, DC101, and an alternate version of the song is slated to be used as the title track for an upcoming independent film.
While O’Connor was backed by a full band on his first CD, Heart, Body & Soul features just his voice and an acoustic guitar. Critics have lauded the “simple guitar plucking [and] southern folk vocals” that he is known for during his stage performances, and his sophomore release is intended to afford listeners the feel and intimacy of his live shows.
“I’m really excited about how Heart, Body & Soul turned out,” O’Connor said. “As well received as my first CD was, I think I’ve grown a lot as a musician in the past couple of years, and these new songs reflect that.”
