Somaly Mam Foundation Gala, Managed by Opus Solutions LLC, Raises Nearly $1 Million to Help End Human Trafficking

Opus Solutions donates management services and event planning expertise for the “Spread Your Wings” gala to support Somaly Mam Foundation mission

Opus Solutions was honored to provide event management services at the ‘Spread Your Wings” gala for the Somaly Mam Foundation. The event took place on November 18th and raised nearly $1 million USD to help eradicate sexual slavery and human trafficking worldwide. Opus Solutions is proud to have had the opportunity to work on such an important pro-bono project and recognizes the many attendees, vendors and donors who also gave freely of their time and expertise to make this event a success, including Top Productions (Tent Rental), Hartmann Studios (Décor) and Global Gourmet Catering.

Kerrie Sheldon, who recently joined Opus Solutions as the company’s vice president of event strategy and design, led the company’s effort for the “Spread Your Wings” gala from the newly opened Bay Area office. Sheldon served as a core member of the gala’s planning committee, advising the Foundation on everything from venue selection to event design. Sheldon also hired and managed all vendors who participated in the execution of the event and negotiated $52,000 in vendor cost reductions and service donations.

“When Opus Solutions was originally asked to assist with this event, we welcomed the opportunity to help,” said Kerrie Sheldon. “As the mother of an 11-year-old daughter, the mission of the Foundation hit close to home for me personally. What started out as simply an event, truly turned into a personal mission for my team.”

The “Spread Your Wings” gala was co-chaired by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Draper Fisher Jurvetson Partner Jennifer Fonstad and honored Somaly Mam, who has garnered world-wide respect and is now a renowned leader at the forefront of the anti-trafficking struggle. Highlights of the evening included a presentation by Somaly Mam as well as a VIP pre-party to meet Somaly and celebrities in attendance, including Ron Livingston, star of the independent film "Holly." Co-Executive Editor of AllThingsD.com, Kara Swisher, was the emcee for “Fund-A-Need,” which raised over $200,000 - twice the event goal. The first-time event raised more than $1 million in donations with lead sponsors including; GS Gives, on behalf of George and Renata Lee, Sheryl Sandberg and David Goldberg, Michael Grimes, and Morgan Stanley.

To further support the “Spread Your Wings” gala, Opus Solutions donated event management, planning and audio visual services totaling more than $50,000 in value. The Opus event team managed and consulted on print, food and beverage, sponsorships, contributed to silent auction item procurement, budgeting, seating and all design and décor.
