TVG kicks off the 2010 holiday season by presenting a cornucopia of live horse racing from both sides of the Pacific this weekend.

Highlighting the coverage are the 30th Japan Cup from Tokyo Racecourse and Hollywood Park’s annual Turf Festival. The Grade I, $5.9 million Japan Cup, the biggest event on the Asian horse racing calendar, features a field of top turf horses from around the globe, while the Hollywood Park Turf Festival ushers in the end of the American grass season.

Reporting live from Japan both Friday and Saturday beginning at 9:00 p.m. PST will be TVG’s Todd Schrupp and Simon Bray. The Friday telecast will offer a Japan Cup preview and will showcase the World Super Jockey series featuring top international riders Mike Smith, Johnny Murtagh and Christophe Soumillion. Saturday night’s program will feature coverage of the Japan Cup.

The Hollywood Park Turf Festival is a three-day event that includes five graded horse races with combined purses just shy of $1 million. On the schedule are Friday’s Grade I, $250,000 Matriarch; Saturday’s Grade III, $100,000 Generous Stakes and Grade II, $250,000 Citation Handicap; and Sunday’s Grade III, $100,000 Miesque Stakes and Grade I, $250,000 Hollywood Derby.

“The Japan Cup and the Hollywood Park Turf Festival offer racing fans a great opportunity to enjoy important season ending action,” said Tony Allevato, TVG’s executive producer and senior vice president. “We invite everyone to watch all the exciting action on TVG.”
