Los Gatos, CA (PRWEB) November 29, 2010
ActiveOver50, the #1 magazine for the active 50+ consumer in Northern California, features publisher & editor Larry W. Hayes on the cover of its latest issue.
It is also the publication's 5th anniversary. Since it's founding in 2005, ActiveOver50 has grown from a 12-page newsletter with 5,000 readers to a 40-page glossy magazine with over 200,000 readers in print and online.
"The main reason I launched ActiveOver50 was to help 'dispel the many myths about old age,'" said Hayes, who was 66 at the time. "The biggest misconception about older adults is that they're washed up. Finished. Done. Put a fork in them."
"Blatantly untrue. Today's active 50 consumer is enthusiastic, engaged and seeking new adventures. They are redefining what it means to get older and are making a huge contribution to our society."
Hayes, 71, is an active USTA player/captain, an avid sportsman and volunteer for nonprofits. He serves on the board of directors for Vision Literacy, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching adults with low literacy skills to read and write. He founded and ran a successful marketing and advertising agency for 20 years before starting ActiveOver50.
When asked about his plans to retire: "Never," he said. "I plan to continue to work until I drop. Or when it stops being fun. Right now is the best, most exciting time of my life."
Founded in 2005, ActiveOver50 magazine is written for active 50+ consumers who are working, seeking work, thinking of retiring or leading active retired lives. It is available in print or online and reaches over 200,000 older adults worldwide. The print magazine is published quarterly and distributed free throughout Northern California including the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
The online digital edition includes everything in the print version but with additional articles, resource information and community news including archives of past articles and issues.
ActiveOver50 also publishes a free newsletter listing current Bay Area news and events such as local trade shows, seminars and workshops. For the latest issue and useful information about the active 50+ consumer, visit website: ActiveOver50.com.
