MCEC Receives Further Design Industry Accolades at IDEA

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and joint venture architects Woods Bagot and NH Architecture received further accolades from the Australian design community at the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) held in Sydney on 11 November 2010.

We are incredibly proud of the recognition that we continue to receive from the Australia design industry for our efforts in environmental initiatives.

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and joint venture architects Woods Bagot and NH Architecture received further accolades from the Australian design community at the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) held in Sydney on 11 November 2010.

Outdoing hundreds of submission from around the country the MCEC was awarded ‘Best Institutional Design’ in Australia for intelligent planning, innovative products, environmentally responsive solutions and state-of-the-art technology in a space that is visionary and progressive.

As the first Six Star Green Star convention centre in the world and with design initiatives such as energy efficient light fittings and radiant slab heating and cooling to reduce energy consumption, the MCEC was further recognised with a highly commended in the ‘Sustainable Project’ category.

“I congratulate Woods Bagot and NH Architecture and all involved with the design of the MCEC on these prestigious awards.” said MCEC’s chief executive Leigh Harry.

“We are incredibly proud of the recognition that we continue to receive from the Australia design industry for our efforts in environmental initiatives."

IDEA was first held in 2001 and is recognised by the design industry as the countries pre-eminent design awards program.
