The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) congratulates Kamala Harris for being elected California’s first woman and first Indian-American Attorney General. She beat Republican nominee Steve Cooley. USINPAC had supported Harris’ nomination and campaign for the CA Attorney General race.
Kamala Harris previously became the first woman District Attorney in San Francisco in 2003, and was resoundingly re-elected in 2007. During her tenure she worked extensively on fighting violent crime and increasing their conviction rates. Harris has worked on expanding services to victims of crime and their families, preventing re-offenders, creating new prosecution divisions for child assault, public integrity and environmental crimes. She was also elected to the Board of Directors of the California District Attorneys Association and is a Vice President of the National District Attorney’s Association.
USINPAC Chairman, Sanjay Puri congratulated Harris on her victory and said, “Kamala Harris has shown tremendous passion for justice and public service, and her election is a testimony to her two decades of relentless service to the country’s judicial system. I am sure it will further motivate the Indian-American to participate actively at all levels of government.”
