It is a powerful thing to know the law
Durham, NC (PRWEB) December 2, 2010
The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin is proud to announce that Attorneys Cali Schmitt and Michael Shepherd have joined the personal injury team.
Cali Schmitt joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin as a Bilingual Case Manager and was quickly promoted to Bilingual Litigation Paralegal. She currently serves as a Bilingual Personal Injury Attorney, handling personal injury cases for both English and Spanish-speaking clients.
She received her J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She has a B.A. in international studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has done graduate work in international relations at Florida International University in Miami, Fla. She has lived in many parts of the world and has done extensive volunteer work.
“It is a powerful thing to know the law,” she said. “You see people, especially those unfamiliar with the language and culture, get taken advantage of so often. Certainly if you can help – and even prevent that from happening – that is a good feeling.”
Michael Shepherd received his J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law. He has his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Prior to taking a position at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, Michael Shepherd worked as a Senior Claims Representative for a major insurance company. This has allowed him to see how personal injury law is practiced from both sides of the table.
“What attracted me to the position at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin is the ability to work directly with clients in the field of personal injury law,” he said. “I want to put my law degree to use helping individuals rather than big corporations.”
Michael Shepherd’s professional affiliations include the American Bar Association; North Carolina State Bar and the North Carolina Bar Association. He is Vice President of the Eastern NC Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters. Community service activities include volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and the Literacy Volunteers of America.
