Oroville, CA (PRWEB) December 3, 2010
In the wake of President Obama’s America Recycles Day proclamation, CleanFlame announced today the formal launch of its CleanCycle™ Partner Program. SUPERVALU, whose subsidiary chains include Albertsons, Farm Fresh, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, and Shoppers’, is a flagship participant in the program. This innovative program enables grocers to strengthen their commitment to green products and environmental stewardship by:
Two Albertsons stores in Santa Barbara, CA, have been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency for diverting more than 90% of their waste from landfills. “Albertsons, and SUPERVALU as a whole, is committed to leading the way on environmental sustainability and diverting all possible waste from our Santa Barbara stores is a major accomplishment in this effort,” said Rick Crandall, Director of Sustainability at Albertsons. “In addition to keeping waste out of our landfills, we are charting a course for the future of our stores—one that will not only help our environment and the communities we serve, but also the overall success of our business.”
Wax-coated corrugated cardboard boxes are the water-resistant packaging commonly used to transport produce. Unlike other corrugated cardboard, WOCC cannot be recycled by standard means and requires 50+ years to fully decompose in landfills. Industry estimates indicate that 1.5 million waxed cardboard containers are taken to landfills daily, or 600,000 tons each year.
CleanFlame’s CleanCycle™ Production Process diverts this material from landfills, recycling the used waxed containers into fireplace logs and firestarters which offer superior environmental characteristics versus other fireplace fuel alternatives. This process offers enormous benefit for the environment and allows grocery chains and consumers to achieve their environmental goals.
