CleanFlame Launches its CleanCycle(TM) Partner Program with a Leading Grocery Retailer

In the wake of President Obama’s America Recycles Day proclamation, CleanFlame announced today the formal launch of its CleanCycle™ Partner Program. SUPERVALU, whose subsidiary chains include Albertsons, Farm Fresh, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, and Shoppers’, is a flagship participant in the program. This innovative program enables grocers to strengthen their commitment to green products and environmental stewardship by:

•     Significantly reducing waste from landfills—CleanFlame’s patented CleanCycle™ Production Process recycles retailer and supplier Waxed Old Corrugated Cardboard (WOCC) and converts it into environmentally friendly, ultra-clean burning firelogs and firestarters.
•     Reducing their carbon footprint—SUPERVALU and other CleanCycle™ Partners will supply 16+ million pounds of WOCC to CleanFlame annually for use as raw material in the production of firelogs and firestarters. Diverting waste of that volume will save 200,000+ trees. End users of CleanFlame products will also produce 80 percent less carbon monoxide, 86% less Creosote and 30 percent less particulate matter than cordwood.
•     Providing “green” products to customers—SUPERVALU and other members of the CleanCycle™ Partners Program will not only supply WOCC as raw material for the production of CleanFlame firelogs and firestarters, but will also stock CleanFlame’s products on store shelves. This will enable their customers to meet their personal environmental goals.

Wax-coated corrugated cardboard boxes are the water-resistant packaging commonly used to transport produce. Unlike other corrugated cardboard, WOCC cannot be recycled by standard means and requires 50+ years to fully decompose in landfills. Industry estimates indicate that 1.5 million waxed cardboard containers are taken to landfills daily, or 600,000 tons each year.
