"It will certainly be appealing, and yes - provocative, to a wide audience."

Peter Pauper Press, a leading publisher of fine gift books and stationary products, has entered into a Transmedia License Agreement with enkHouse for the creation of an interactive, enhanced eBook based on the publisher’s print book, The Little Black Book of Kama Sutra. In addition, under the agreement, enkHouse may create enhanced eBooks and apps from most of the publisher’s remaining catalog of Little Black Books and Little Pink Books. These include such titles as the recently published The Little Hiptionary, as well as The Little Black Book of Cocktails, and The Little Pink Book of Etiquette.
Larry Beilenson, President of Peter Pauper Press, said “this is a fantastic time in publishing, with the surge in eBooks and digital publishing. Most of our book series are ideal for conversion into great apps and enhanced eBooks. David’s company, enkHouse, has the right vision and unique production skills to bring them alive digitally. We are excited to see what they do.”
The two companies have been discussing various projects for awhile and decided to start with the very popular Kama Sutra book. “I had been looking for the right Kama Sutra book to enhance with some never-before-seen interactive techniques,” said David Marlett, Founder and CEO of enkHouse. “This very clever and well-crafted book, The Little Black Book of Kama Sutra, and Larry’s willingness to embrace new opportunities, were ideal.”
Marlett expects the interactive app will have a huge international audience. “It will certainly be appealing, and yes - provocative, to a wide audience,” said Marlett. “Though tastefully presented, due to its subject matter and the way we’ll be ‘enhancing it’, it will not be for the under-18 group.” It is anticipated to include 360 degree rotatable and zoomable HD photography of nude models. Marlett would not be more specific about the interactive elements to be included, though he suggested a patentable process is likely to arise from the production. “We are pushing the boundaries with this. Same as we are doing with all of our interactive digital books.”
Regarding the distribution of the Kama Sutra App, Marlett said it’s likely to be what he calls an “independent app” not sold through traditional app stores. He added that though he likes the Apple iOS, he knows photographed nudity in the digital product will likely cause Apple to reject it from the iTunes App Store. “The upside will be its availability on any mobile platform and the elimination of a distributor’s percentage.”
