“The biggest points I wanted to convey were that the practice of personal injury law is about helping people, and that you need to have a focus on making a difference in the lives of others rather than on making money,” said Attorney Michael Jordan.
Durham, NC (PRWEB) December 16, 2010
Michael Jordan, a personal injury attorney at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, spoke about his practice area with students at the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law on Nov. 18.
Jordan was invited to speak by Philip Guzman, NC Central University (NCCU) School of Law Director of Public Service Programs, who has developed a program in which successful alumni from various legal practice areas speak with law school students.
“The biggest points I wanted to convey were that the practice of personal injury law is about helping people, and that you need to have a focus on making a difference in the lives of others rather than on making money,” Michael Jordan said. “I talked about clients who had been suicidal and told some of the real-life stories about clients who had been absolutely devastated by their injuries. I also explained some of the complexities involved in cases and in building a practice.
“My goal was to give them a feeling for what personal injury practice is really about since actual practice is very different from reading a torts book.”
While the students had an opportunity to learn more about the true practice of personal injury law, there was something in it for Jordan as well.
“I really enjoyed spending time with these bright young men and women, and it was heart-warming to hear the genuine care in their voices when talking about the devastation injury victims can suffer,” he said. “As a firm, the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin takes pride in its connection to the community; part of that connection is helping set a good foundation for future generations of leaders in the legal community.”
Jordan also appreciated the opportunity to give back to his alma mater.
“I am grateful to NC Central University (NCCU) School of Law for the education and legal foundation I received while there, and I am happy to help current students receive those same opportunities.”
Michael Jordan joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2001 and became a shareholder in the firm in 2002. He received his J.D. from the North Carolina Central University School of Law and his B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Michael Jordan is very active in the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) and is a three-time recipient of its Order of Service Award. He is currently serving on the Board of Governors and on the Executive Committee for the Auto Torts Section. Additionally, he continues to serve on the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) Legislative Committee and is Chair of its Publication’s Committee.
