Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 8, 2010 —

This winter, Mayor Michael Nutter will virtually interview and train thousands of Philadelphians eager to secure employment opportunities through Philadelphia EARN Centers. As the pre-recorded interviewer, Mayor Nutter will deliver personalized interview questions made available through the city’s well-established and highly-successful InterviewStream platform—enabling candidates to develop much-needed, transferable career skills. Today’s announcement offers new horizons for job-seeking Philadelphians embattled by job loss as well as a unique opportunity for businesses and non-profits to connect with local job seekers.

EARN (Employment, Advancement and Retention Network) Centers provide employment and training services to help unemployed individuals receiving public assistance make their way back to economic self-sufficiency. Mayor Nutter’s recording will be featured at all nine of the city’s EARN Centers where more than 15,000 people receive services. “Putting Philadelphians back to work is our number one priority,” said Mayor Michael Nutter. “I’m excited to offer our residents a new level of interaction to gain the transferable skills necessary for a long-term and meaningful career. Together, we can prove that a little training and a lot of confidence create the recipe for success.”

The Mayor’s virtual interview sessions will be conducted using an internet-connected computer and webcam. Once recorded, candidates can review their interviews online to improve and enhance their interviewing technique and technical savvy. Once the interviews are perfected, candidates can interview online with prospective employers hiring local residents to fill available positions.

Myrna Alvarez, the first EARN participant to use the system said, “It’s great to see Mayor Nutter directly participating in the improvement of Philadelphia residents lives. This is the only place in the country where I can practice my interview with the Mayor and I appreciate that he’s willing to try something new. He really cares.”

“Bravo to Mayor Nutter and the local EARN Programs for giving thousands of Philadelphians the opportunity to re-enter the workforce in new and innovative ways. Philadelphia has been hit hard by unemployment over the past year, and we’re excited to contribute to the economic vitality of this great city,” said Miles Munz, co-founder of InterviewStream. “Ultimately, it is the evolution of our residents and our local businesses that will make Philadelphia thrive.”

Video interviewing allows not only a way for EARN Center job candidates to practice and perfect their interviews but it also provides numerous benefits to companies locally and around the country seeking to build their teams on a fixed or zero budget.

InterviewStream’s site,InterviewStream.com, was launched as a way to offer employers the opportunity to conveniently interview qualified candidates while gaining a more comprehensive understanding of a job candidate’s background, experiences, interests and communication skills. By implementing video interviewing into the recruitment process, like the Mayor’s office has done with the Philadelphia EARN Centers, job seekers and employers are creating more meaningful interaction earlier in the recruitment process than ever before.

Mayor Nutter continued, “With the help from the InterviewStream system, Philadelphia now has the most exclusive tools on the market to build our residents interviewing skills and thus offer confidence and hope in seeking a brighter future.”
