A new political social news site was launched today on the one-year anniversary of President Barack Obama’s inauguration. Politlife.com promises to be the place to find all the breaking political news across all party lines and demographics.
Started by a small group of frustrated social news site users, Politilife.com sets out to do what other sites have failed to do. Politilife.com will focus on political content submitted by users and create a neutral platform where all sides will feel they can freely voice their opinions.
Other popular social new sites lack clearly defined categories for political content, many lack the use of tagging, or have wedged political profile settings on top of dating engines. “I don’t care about your weight or body type if the topic is Obama’s bail outs” says Politilife.com’s founder Salvatore Iozzia, also known as ‘tactlesswonder’ on the site.
Salvatore is the founder of several successful ecommerce companies that employ dozens of people around the world, including venture-funded Chain Reaction Ecommerce. His latest company, The Reactor Works, created Politilife.com. The Reactor Works provides custom ecommerce solutions for online merchants specializing in payment security. Politilife.com leverages The Reactor Works core competencies of building dynamic, database-driven sites for their clients.
“I became totally engaged in the online discussions of politics around the time that the town halls started to break out into shouting matches. I found one popular social news site full of political news and blogs and got wrapped up in it immediately. I became part of a network of friends and groups and contributed daily to the site, getting several front page news posts,” says Salvatore. “It became apparent to me that the site was not geared to meet the needs of the political-social activities going on. There was at once a sense of lawlessness that seemed to reward extremist views, plus a swarming of ‘up votes’ and blocking of users opposed certain views, and then a seemingly random iron fist of moderation and the banning of users for the likes of using curse words, even in a defense of one’s dignity. Extremely successful social sites, like digg.com do not freak out if you use strong language, they seem to understand what actual abusive behavior is.”
Politilife.com launches with a basic set of features, including user submitted news links, user created blogs, and polls. All content can be rated and commented on. All comment can be voted on. Members can make groups, public or private, and create their own forums. The site will be adding additional features soon, such a debate mode, sources management, and the Bias-O-Meter™.
The site plans to make money via traditional online ads plus a value-added ‘pro’ membership that removes most of the ads and unlocks premium features, similar to the deviantart.com model.
Politilife.com is a privately owned and operated site backed by it’s parent company The Reactor Works http://www.thereactorworks.com. It’s goal is to present the latest breaking political news across all party lines and demographics, and to give a forum for the members to express their response in a civil and safe, but fun, way. http://www.politilife.com.
