the most important message conveyed through this work is that of togetherness – that while we often look at and focus on the differences which separate us individually, we seemingly always overlook the similarities which bond us all together.

Inspired by the long-standing tradition of Chinese proverbs, poet Jeff Tay presents his collection of original poems and proverbs in The Lucky Swords Book of 44 Proverbs (published by AuthorHouse).

Each of the 44 proverbs, consisting of four words, explores the common threads that bind all of humanity together, including motivations, struggles and aspirations.

In The Lucky Swords Book of 44 Proverbs, Tay navigates universal truths with simplicity and care. An excerpt:

violence is a problem
thus providing no answers
violence is a cycle
thus it never ends

The Lucky Swords Book of 44 Proverbs is Tay’s reflections on the world around him. “For me,” says the poet, “the most important message conveyed through this work is that of togetherness – that while we often look at and focus on the differences which separate us individually, we seemingly always overlook the similarities which bond us all together.”

About the Author
After moving from British Columbia to Malaysia as a child, Jeff Tay experienced a drastic cultural shift that caused him to become a more thoughtful and socially-conscious individual. When he returned to Canada as a teenager, the contrasting culture once again cultivated inspiration as Tay rediscovered his North American environment. Tay turned to writing as a way to express these observations and wrote The Lucky Swords Book of 44 Proverbs to encourage others to reflect upon the concepts that bring people together.

Tay studied interactive arts at Simon Fraser University and has a passion for writing, philosophy and visual design. He currently resides in Burnaby, British Columbia.
