Prominent female journalists, led by the editors of the new book, "The Edge of Change: Women in the 21st Century Press," gather at Poynter for a conference dedicated to the challenges and triumphs of women in media.

The Poynter Institute and editors of the new book, “The Edge of Change: Women in the 21st Century Press,” are hosting a two-day conference for women in news, beginning May 20 with a conversation with Katharine Weymouth, publisher and CEO of The Washington Post. Weymouth will speak about managing news in the digital age and carrying forward the legacy of her grandmother and former Post publisher, Katharine Graham. Some of the country’s most prominent female journalists, editors and executives are attending the conference, many of whom contributed to the book’s 33 original essays on the challenges, triumphs and future of women in the industry.

“The Edge of Change” was edited by June O. Nicholson, associate director of the School of Mass Communication at Virginia Commonwealth University; Pamela J. Creedon, professor and former director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa; Wanda S. Lloyd, executive editor of the Montgomery Advertiser and the founding executive director of the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute at Vanderbilt University; and Pamela J. Johnson, executive director of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism, University of Missouri. Ellen Goodman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, author, speaker and commentator, wrote the foreward.

The editors have pledged proceeds from the book to Poynter to fund future training opportunities for women. “The Edge of Change” is priced at $25. For more information or to order the book, please visit http://www.poynter.org/shop or call 727-821-9494.
