The Search Monitor, an online monitoring software that tracks competitive advertising in real-time, enhanced its proprietary affiliate detection and crawling technology in order to easily identify cloaked affiliates.

The Search Monitor, an ad monitoring tool that tracks competitive advertising in real-time, has enhanced its proprietary affiliate detection and crawling technology to easily identify affiliate evaders who cloak their identity by using rigorous bot detection tests in order to hide from crawlers. These new enhancements are successful at catching all currently deployed affiliate evasion tactics including IP checks, browser history checks, and other popular cloaking tactics.

“The ability to de-cloak affiliates is critical for quality assurance teams to keep their affiliate programs clean,” says Lori Weiman, CEO of The Search Monitor and co-author of The Affiliate Manager’s Guide to Compliance. “Affiliates are an important part of the marketing mix. However, when affiliates look for ways to hide when you try to find them, affiliate managers and networks need tools to quickly and clearly identify non-compliant affiliates.”

Affiliate marketing is a critical component of an overall online advertising strategy for marketers. eMarketer (December 2010) reports that US online ad spending in 2010 will rise by nearly 14%, reaching a record $25.8 billion. Search spend, an estimated $12.4 billion, comprises a significant portion of the total number. Over the next few years, Internet ad spending will continue to grow, passing $30 billion in 2012 and breaking the $40 billion barrier in 2014.

The Search Monitor will be attending and sponsoring the Affiliate Summit West 2011 show in Las Vegas, January 9th through January 11th. Expert team members will be available to discuss how the new affiliate detection technology can work for affiliate managers, OPMs, and affiliate networks.
