It was history in the making and the place to be from 7-10 P.M. at Agenda Loft (http://www.agendaloft.com) in Downtown LA, January 19, 2011. Kevan Hall and his creative team successfully staged a one-of-a-kind theatrical fashion event, which caused quite a stir for those who were fortunate enough to be in attendance. The space was styled lavishly with avant-garde furniture befitting of a 30s movie set. The evening started out with red carpet arrivals then coalesced into pure bohemian fantasy as guests looked on. Early into the evening the stylish atmosphere morphed from party to salon-style theater with the three models (Algo Brehane, Alli Cripe, and Brynn Jones) who played the leads adorned in Kevan Hall couture. The runway lights dimmed, alerting the guests that the show was about to begin. And the first model emerged with swan-like grace as she walked, danced, and posed to perfect surround sound. A real highlight was Photogenics model and professional dancer Algo Brehane. She broke out with the tango in her black chiffon Kevan Hall evening gown. Each of the three models had her moment more than a few times that evening.
Hall presented nine looks from his Spring 2011 collection that were photographed live by Ash Gupta. Ash coached the models to picture perfection enhancing the theatrical ambiance as he and his crew followed the “starlets” through a series of light and set changes.
“My desire was to highlight red carpet looks in a new and exciting way. Using this intimate space allowed everyone present to be actively involved in a ‘live fashion shoot,’ either as ambiance, as another model, or even as a photographer. With select music, it easily became a revolving ‘fashion opera’ that crescendoed into the night."—Kevan Hall
Agenda Loft is a fully functional yet convertible runway space in the salon tradition. The founders, Kaylene Peoples and Arun Nevader, created the space to suit a variety of occasions. Agenda Loft can support live runway, fashion installations, photo shoots, parties, art exhibits, trunk shows, etc. Kevan Hall and art director/stylist Kendrick Osorio decorated the original space by using accents from Kevan’s own studio along with select pieces from a local LA-based furniture store, Collection, taking us all back to the homes of the movie stars of the 30s.
There was an impressive spread of gourmet finger foods prepared by Agenda Loft co-founder Arun Nevader, who is not only a fashion photographer, but also a former New York restaurant owner and chef. His shrimp and chanterelle mushroom empanadas were a culinary hit. People could not get enough of Millie’s Cheesecakes either. The miniature desserts were yet another party favorite. Master mixologist Eric "ET" Tecosky kept the drinks flowing and the guests were happy all night.
Sponsors for the evening were Smashbox Cosmetics, O.N.E. Drinks, Photogenics Models, Dirty Sue, Millie’s Cheesecakes, the San Fernando Building, and the Agenda brands (Foundation, Magazine, and Loft).
If you weren’t at Kevan Hall’s fashion event with his Spring 2011 red carpet highlights at Agenda Loft January 19, you missed history in the making. Fashion will never be the same again . . . Kevan Hall just raised the bar!
