What's Behind a French Kiss and a French Lover? Ask Smartdate, the New French Touch of the Online Dating Industry

If you asked a French single, which “nationality would you rather date?”, the answer would be Italian (39%) and then American (37%). The French-American love story is reciprocal as French men are also a close second for American ladies (35%) behind the Italians - again (38%), while French women rank first (42%) for American men.

So what’s behind the mysterious transatlantic love? Smartdate (http://www.Smartdate.com), the new French touch of the dating industry, organized a survey with 7,400 of its French and American members to get to the core of the mystery. Besides the common fascination of the ladies on both sides of the ocean with Italian men, the survey surfaced some of the common clichés: To the French ladies, Americans are more athletic, glamorous and fun to be with. The perceived strength of character of American women seems to be a turn-on for many French men. To Americans, the French are cultivated, sophisticated and elegant, and French women convey a very attractive sense of mystery and charm.

Clichés, strongly conveyed by movies and pop culture, still play an important role in popular perceptions, but some results of the survey were more interesting. When it comes to the bedroom department for example, the French are perceived by Americans to be more romantic and innovative lovers than their fellow countrymen, while Americans are supposedly more sexually active with a higher number of sexual partners. Surprisingly, men of both countries believe that the ladies on the other side of the ocean are “easier” – clearly just an urban legend given that roughly the same percentage (18% and 16% respectively of American and French ladies) claim they would be “willing to seal the deal on the first night if the partner is right.”

“Clearly, the pasture is not greener on the other side.” says Fabrice Le Parc, founder and CEO of Smartdate. If you’re thinking whether the name rings a bell, well it should. Fabrice Le Parc founded Smartdate in Paris after becoming the first ABC Bachelorette contestant to leave by choice because he was not finding true love on the show. He set out to create a dating website that would lead to real and lasting relationships and Smartdate was born.

“Smartdate offers a chic, elegant and sophisticated service built on the fundamental premise that many lasting relationships develop from existing friendships and social networks.” say Mr. Le Parc. Indeed, the website enables members to connect with the friends of their Facebook friends – creating authentic relationships within networks of existing acquaintances and friends. In addition the website offers a Smartmatch algorithm that intelligently learns from members interactions and tastes and leverages collective intelligence to recommend the best matches.

As a result, Smartdate has taken off in less than 5 months, today attracting over 1.25 million members and more than 20,000 additional members per day. North American memberships have grown without promotion and now Fabrice is returning to the U.S. to help North Americans find love and romance the French Way on the World’s Fastest Growing Dating Website. Smartdate is officially launching in North America and offering a free day on February 13th for a chance to fall in love before Valentine’s Day!
