Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 26, 2011
Hammer and Block Auctioneers, Miami’s only full-service auction house, will hold it’s inaugural Latin American Art sale on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 7:30 pm. The auction will be held live at the Hammer and Block location in the center of the Midtown Miami Wynwood Art District as well as online on renowned auction website, http://www.liveauctioneers.com.
Hammer and Block combines the atmosphere of an art and antique gallery with elements of some of America’s favorite reality TV shows: American Pickers, Pawn Stars and Auction Kings. It is the only licensed auction house in Miami with regularly scheduled bi-weekly auctions held on Thursdays and specialty auctions such as the February 2nd Latin American Art sale.
The Latin American Art auction will feature original artwork by Carlos Quintana, one of Cuba’s most famous contemporary artists, and pieces by Eduardo McEntyre and Marcelo Bonevardi from Argentina. The Bonevardi piece “Messenger” was previously in a private collection for the last 20 years after it was purchased in Sotherby’s in New York in 1990.
“Much of the artwork has not come to the auction market before,” said Neil Hunt, CEO, Hammer and Block Auctioneers. “We are proud to have such important pieces for our first of many special auctions concentrating on the Latin American culture and its fine tradition of art.”
In addition to the Latin American art pieces, there will be a selection of quality furniture, ceramics, and collectables for sale. Hammer and Block uses expert consignment specialists to determine the authenticity and originality of specialty auction items that are brought in by private collectors.
Hammer and Block is different from the surrounding art or design galleries because high-end, quality items are sold via live auctions, free to the public, in a relaxed setting. Auction items are typically sold at costs much less than retail or gallery prices and there is no obligation to bid. All auctions are preceded by a wine and cheese viewing reception promoted via Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets.
“Hammer and Block is not your father's auction house. We don’t have the pretentions of some galleries and the mustiness of most auctions,” added Hunt. “We have a large, comfortable space where potential bidders are encouraged to touch, pick up, handle and test out the objects. Imagine that in a gallery!”
