“The Larry King Cardiac Foundation has a mission of saving a heart a day. By helping bring these screenings to the residents of Tennessee, they are doing more than that.

The Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF) is sponsoring low-cost blood screenings in Tennessee through a collaboration with Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings.

The blood testing consists of a lipid panel (cholesterol) and glucose (sugar) screening, which identifies diabetes risk. Both of these important blood screenings are related to heart disease and stroke prevention. High cholesterol and diabetes are leading risk factors for both conditions and are silent in the early stages. Without testing, you may never know that you are at-risk.

“We are thrilled to be able to help bring these critical screenings to residents of Tennessee,” says Larry King, Jr, President of the Larry King Cardiac Foundation. “Life Line Screening specializes in providing affordable screenings in comfortable, convenient locations. This makes it easy for people to get the screenings they need and the information they require to take care of their heart, their vascular system and their general well-being.”

Blood screenings are done with a simple finger-stick and results are available on-site. Other screenings provided by Life Line Screening include ultrasound screenings for carotid artery disease and peripheral arterial disease, as well as testing for atrial fibrillation, bone density, and basic biometrics such as blood pressure.

“The Larry King Cardiac Foundation has a mission of saving a heart a day. By helping bring these screenings to the residents of Tennessee, they are doing more than that. They are helping prevent heart problems from developing in the first place. We are very pleased to have such a valuable partner and to support the Foundation,” says Colin Scully, CEO, Life Line Screening.

The first screening will take place in Sweetwater, TN at the First United Methodist Church on the 1st of February. There will be more than 200 screening events across the state in 2011. Life Line Screening conducts screenings in the 48 contiguous states and will reach close to a million people at approximately 16,000 screening events. About the Larry King Cardiac Foundation
The Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide funding for life saving cardiac procedures for individuals who, due to limited means and no insurance, would be otherwise unable to receive life-saving treatment.

The LKCF was established in 1988, the year after Larry King underwent a successful quintuple bypass heart surgery, after his heart had been failing as a result of cardiovascular disease for nearly a year. To learn more or to donate, visit http://www.lkcf.org or call 1-866-302-LKCF (5523).
