How does something positive come out of a tragic ending of a person’s life? By paying tribute to that person and keeping her spirit alive, by supporting an alternative cancer treatment, and by staying committed to this unique journey of hope.
This is what Rodger has done by writing this heartfelt book, Carole’s Story… A Scottish Gem. She invites the readers to live vicariously through Carole’s life and her story is one of strength, triumphs, tribulations, romance, and love of life. Carole was inspirational in many ways and had a zest for life bigger than life itself. Celebrate with her, but also share in her tribulations, which is the other reason why Rodger wrote this book.
When Carole was running out of options, the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, a foundation that supports a non-invasive cancer treatment using radio waves, gave her hope.
Oddly enough, what started out solely as a tribute to Carole’s life blossomed into something much larger in scale for Rodger. In essence, the book serves as a vehicle to support this foundation in the hope that other families won’t have to experience the same emotional challenges their family has had to endure.
“I don’t know anyone who has not been touched by cancer, whether it’s been a family member or friend or one’s own self,” said Rodger. “This experience has had a profound effect on me, however, what really matters is what I do with how it’s changed me,” she said. “I am on a mission and one thing I know for sure, is Carole’s zest for life will live on with every life we will be able to save with our contributions through this unique journey of hope.”
Michele M. Rodger has worked both in corporate America and in the United Kingdom, as a human resources professional for the past 19 years. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Adelphi University's School of Social Work and always had an overwhelming desire to help people. The ultimate happy ending to this story is being able to continually contribute until an alternative cancer treatment saves lives.
