For those out there that like to do something adventurous with family, friends or colleagues; those who enjoy action-packed fun days out; but want a bit of inspiration, help is at hand! To celebrate the launch of The Online Activity Directory (TOAD) and to give a sneak preview of activities listed on the NEW website (some that you might not even know exist), TOAD have compiled an inspiring list of our Top 5 Alternative Activities for 2011.

For those out there that like to do something adventurous with family, friends or colleagues; those who enjoy action-packed fun days out; but want a bit of inspiration, help is at hand! TOAD (The Online Activity Directory) has been created to help make life easier for the aspiring activity seeker to find nearby activity providers, whether they want to do something a bit different or just find a local go-karting venue.

1)    Zap Cats
Zap Cats are lightweight, twin hulled, inflatable catamarans with large outboard engines, capable of pulling in excess of 2G in a turn. Zap Cats can reach speeds of up to 50 mph in as little as 3 Seconds and were originally designed for surf rescue.

2)    Powerturning
Powerturning involves driving a two-seater vehicle operated by only two levers, with the two drive wheels being powered at different speeds by two engines to make the Powerturn ‘turn’. These vehicles can reach speeds in excess of 30mph and are great for spinning on the spot and wheelies.

3)    GNAT Shooting
GNAT Shooting involves attempting to shoot down a remote control plane using real shotguns. The agile aircraft can fly at speeds of up to 80 mph and are capable of aerobatics.

4)    Ice Climbing.
Ice Climbing involves scaling ice formations such as frozen waterfalls and cliffs as well as artificial ice walls. The equipment used varies according to the slope and texture of the ice, with ice axes used for nearer to vertical climbs.

5)    Coasteering
Coasteering involves traversing a rocky coastline on foot or by swimming in the 'impact zone' where water, waves, rocks and gullies come together. The route will differ depending on conditions on the day and can involve swimming, jumping, climbing and scrambling.
