After a banner year in 2010 Films by Francesco, a boutique cinematography company, has expansion on their mind, with a plan to branch out while staying true to the boutique culture they hold dear. During downtime Francesco tirelessly researches new ways to improve the artistic elements of their films, while Michele maintains close connections with planners, designers and the long-list of satisfied clients they've accumulated over the years. “We want to keep it personal,” Michele Spiezia, one of the co-owners says, “For us that means relatively small.”
Despite the pomp and circumstance surrounding weddings, every bride and groom knows that getting married is ultimately a personal affair. With guests to be taken care of, planners and staff constantly buzzing about making sure everything runs smoothly, it’s not infrequent that the day can turn into a blur. Almost every couple hires a photographer to capture their wedding through still photography, but an increasing number have turned to professional event 'cinematographers' to create memorable narratives that are quite literally moving.
Many such couples have turned to Films by Francesco to capture their wedding with discretion and a cinematic eye. Co-owners Michele and Francesco Spiezia are committed to treating every event, and every client, with the highest level of style and aesthetic, along with a personalism often missing from the traditional videography world.
Michele and Francesco started their small studio six years ago with the idea of filming weddings a little differently. Taking the lead from industry photographers, they presented their work as art, instead of a trade or commodity. "We make films, not videos," says Michele, "it may sound funny but there's an important distinction between the two." Their artful and organic films focus on capturing events with unblinking honesty. To accomplish this Francesco works entirely without the intrusion of lights, steadicams or an army of shooters.
There are no multiple takes to get the “perfect shot,” as Francesco relies on being in the moment, capturing the events and scenes of the day in a uniquely documentary style. Without lighting and excessive gear the team can remain unobtrusive as they move throughout the events they shoot, capturing them with a candid and natural approach.
Michele says that this is what separates their craft from many traditional videographers. “While most production houses fall flat with over produced videos, we create an intensely personal and intimate experience that isn’t rehearsed or phony.” Handling the videography of a wedding is an extremely delicate process, requiring Francesco and his team to capture the visible while remaining essentially invisible themselves.
The high standard that Films by Francesco holds themselves to has given the company strong word-of-mouth presence, ultimately leading to their selection as the videographers of choice for a variety of high-profile weddings, including the nuptials of New York Yankee Nick Swisher and Joanna Garcia, as well as Nicole Richie and Joel Madden—and many others others that can't be mentioned do to strict confidentiality agreements.
Films by Francesco has offices in Palm Beach, Florida and New York City and is expanding to Boston and LA later this year. See what they're up to by visiting http://blog.filmsbyfrancesco.com or contact Michele at Michele(at)filmsbyfrancesco(dot)com to learn more.
