In light of the economic struggle facing many families in 2011, BJU Press announced new, flexible options for its Distance Learning Online homeschool program. BJU Press DLO grade kits and single-subject kits have previously been sold bundled with the textbooks; but this year each DLO kit can be purchased either with or without textbooks.

When times are hard, we remember the things that are most important—things like a Christian education for our children.

With many Americans still struggling due to the economic downturn, BJU Press has taken steps to help its homeschool customers find affordable options. In the past BJU Press offered its Distance Learning Online kits bundled with the textbooks and all necessary materials for each grade or subject. As part of the kit, these textbooks were deeply discounted. This year, BJU Press is offering Distance Learning Online grade kits and subject kits with or without textbooks.

The new “without textbooks” option allows homeschool families with multiple children to reuse books previously purchased for older children. The “without textbooks” option is priced lower than the complete “with textbooks” kit, allowing for savings at a time when every dollar matters. “Our customers asked us for the increased flexibility,” says JoEllen DeLuca, manager of BJU Press Marketing Communications. “And with the economic downturn taking a toll on everyone, we thought this was a good time to go the extra mile and open up more options for homeschool families.”

BJU Press has also added more online quizzes and made 34 student textbooks available in PDF format at no additional charge to Distance Learning Online users. The DLO parent account now includes parent instructions, direct access to printed materials and videos, and improvements to the email and calendar features.

With these new features, especially the option to purchase kits with or without textbooks, BJU Press has again proven its dedication to providing high-quality, affordable Christian homeschool education. “When times are hard, we remember the things that are most important—things like a Christian education for our children,” says JoEllen DeLuca. “We’ll do whatever we can to make that a reality for our customers.”
