The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) is hosting its 2011 International Conference March 13-15 at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tuscon, AZ. This year’s conference theme—Changing Times- Distinctive Solutions—is right on target in light of the captive industry’s ever-evolving climate.

“The CICA Program Committee has worked hard to put together educational sessions that focus on offering distinctive solutions to current issues facing the captive industry,” explained John Svoboda, CICA Program Committee Chair. “Captive owners, captive managers, reinsurance brokers, and domicile regulators are just a few of the kinds of speakers who will be presenting topics. With decades of combined captive industry knowledge, there is no better place to learn and interact with peers.”

CICA’s conference program features two full days of intensive education sessions and a comprehensive tradeshow where captive owners and risk managers learn about and evaluate business solutions and ideas with service providers and domiciles. Keynoter Erik Wahl, a recognized artist and speaker, will deliver the keynote address challenging individual and organizations to transcend mediocrity through creativity.

In addition to the keynote address, industry experts will present a comprehensive program of education sessions from a uniquely domicile-neutral point of view. Highlights include a session on Legislative and Political Developments in Healthcare and Financial Services Reform by Jim McIntyre, McIntyre Law Firm, LLC and Joe Holahan, Morris, Manning & Martin LLP, who will discuss the PPACA and Dodd-Frank laws. Both bills contemplate rulemakings by federal and state agencies that will have a substantial impact on the implementation of the law. What are the federal and state governments doing? In light of the elections, what might Congress do? How will all this affect the insurance business and captives, in particular? Learn about Captive Investment Portfolios: Real Solutions for Managing Risk presented by Mike O’Malley, Managing Director, Strategic Risk Solutions, Inc., Mike Vandenbossche, Senior Portfolio Manager, Munder Capital Management and Anne Kennedy, Investment Consultant, of CapTrust Advisors. This unique presentation covers how captives have been grappling with investment decisions since their inception. How can captives protect themselves from market volatility, mitigate the various risks associated with active portfolio management, and sleep well at night while still maximizing their potential portfolio return?
