National Checking Company announces that it has begun producing and distributing exclusively BPA-free thermal register rolls.

"We're excited to continue offering quality register rolls our customers can be comfortable using, knowing they're completely BPA free."

National Checking Company (NCCO), a leading supplier of foodservice disposables, has announced that as of January 1, 2011 all of its thermal register rolls are 100% BPA free.

NCCO began the process of transitioning to a BPA free thermal paper back in 2008, and through the coordinated execution of its suppliers recently concluded the transition according to NCCO President Ben Olk III.

“We’ve been working with our suppliers to achieve this goal and we’re proud to be able to offer exclusively BPA-free thermal paper,” Olk said. “While we are confident that our products have always been safe, we are also aware of the public’s concern and desire for a BPA-free solution.”

The Bisphenol-A (BPA) chemical is a common organic compound used as the developing agent in thermal receipt paper and also to make plastics and most of the epoxy resins that line the inside of beverage cans. The issue with the BPA in thermal paper is that it can transfer onto skin where small amounts can be absorbed into the body or to be transferred onto food.

Recent scientific review from research organizations, including the World Health Organization, have drawn conflicting conclusions regarding the actual danger posed to humans by the existence of BPA thermal receipts. But regardless of which conclusion proves to be accurate, NCCO’s stance on BPA has been consistently firm.

“Numerous media outlets and research organizations will undoubtedly continue to debate whether BPA in thermal paper poses an imminent danger to humans,” Olk said. “But we firmly believe that our customers deserve high quality, reliably safe products free from this debate.”

NCCO, which also produces the original restaurant GuestCheck™, has produced thermal register rolls for more than 16 years and in that time is unaware of any employee or end-user health issue associated with thermal paper usage.

“We’ve been providing quality products and services for more than 100 years and would never knowingly risk the health and well-being of any of our employees or customers,” Olk said. “We’re excited to continue offering quality register rolls our customers can be comfortable using, knowing they’re completely BPA free.”
