Pneumatic tube systems (PTS) have been working dependably in hospitals for decades, but these indispensible workhorses are about to get a facelift. Swisslog Healthcare Solutions (HCS), a leading provider of automated materials transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals, today announced the April availability of the new Nexus touch-screen control panel for pneumatic tube systems.
This advanced touch-screen display will work with 6-inch and 4-inch Translogic, Quantum or competitive PTS stations, and can be retrofitted to existing systems one station at a time or as part of a complete system overhaul.
Unlike traditional control panels, which require manual drill-down commands for accessing various functions, the Nexus control panel gives users an ATM-like touch screen. The design of the new control panel was influenced by hospital personnel, resulting in human-friendly technology ideally suited to busy hospital environments.
Nexus enables easier and faster access to special functions like STAT, secure-send, and sending materials at slower speeds. The screen features pre-programmed speed dials, or Quick Keys, that make tube system users more efficient and productive. Important messages, such as station arrival and secure carriers, are displayed with vibrant colors and large type that the user can see from a distance.
Built-in security features, such as PIN codes and support for optional access badge readers, assure that only authorized users gain access to the tube system.
“The Nexus panel is a very modern departure from traditional pneumatic tube system control panels,” said Jim Patrician, senior vice president of Swisslog Healthcare Solutions. “Nexus is the foundation for future advances in PTS control technology.”
