Egyptians worldwide who have been scrambling to find a way to support their relatives and friends at home have found a new way to add their voice to the popular uprising. As part of the March of the Millions, thousands of Egyptian ex-patriots are expected to rally today in the Virtual World RallyForEgypt.com
“RallyForEgypt.com was set up to provide a way for anyone with access to the internet to participate in this revolution of freedom that is taking place in Egypt,” said Brian Shuster, CEO of Utherverse Digital, Inc., the company that hosts the Virtual World. “Small rallies have been taking place around the world, but now it is possible for those small rallies to join together online to become another major voice calling for freedom and change.”
RallyForEgypt.com is one of the first major political virtual worlds that comprise the next generation, 3D Internet known as the “Virtual World Web” or “VWW.” The VWW consists of more than 50,000 independent virtual worlds linked together much as web pages are linked together on the Internet. Many virtual worlds are designed to promote political speech, but RallyForEgypt.com is thought to be the first world to host an event of this magnitude.
The RFE Virtual World is set up with news feeds from major news sources, keeping all the virtual world participants informed of the latest developments in Egypt; as well as with text chat, voice chat and a grand stage for speakers and protesters to address the crowds. Rally participants will attend virtually in the form of an avatar, and they will be provided with access to discussion boards and their own blogs and photo upload resources so that they can express their point of view and share their thoughts and experiences with everyone worldwide.
The Virtual March of the Millions is expected to begin on Feb. 1, and to last at least 24 hours.
Utherverse is the leading developer of the 3D Web, the Virtual World Web (VWW), which currently consists of more than 50,000 independently operated virtual worlds. The company was formed in 2002 with the goal of supplementing the flat web with a 3D web that could bring a new kind of efficiency to businesses and users, in entertainment, education, commerce, politics and charity.
