Jet2.com responds to the demand for flights to Cyprus with extra services from Glasgow
It is hard to look beyond holidays to Spain in 2011 but if you follow the predictions of every travel website, holiday company and tour rep with a fake tan, you’ll notice a similar trend; the re-emerging popularity of Cyprus breaks.
Many people are predicting strong growth in flights to Cyprus this year and already airlines like Jet2.com are planning extra services.
Jet2.com, the airline with friendly low fares, has recently launched cheap flights from Glasgow and amongst these new routes are additional services to Paphos. The reason that Paphos was one of the seven selected destinations was because of a growing demand for flights to the island.
These cheap flights to Cyprus from Jet2.com are currently on sale too, which leads nicely into the reasons why Cyprus is once again in vogue. So what is driving increased interest in flights to Cyprus this year?
Performance of the Euro
It is fair to say that, with the pound steadily improving against the Euro, the eurozone is once again offering value for money. Cyprus has long enjoyed a reputation as a luxury island resort but affordable for most families.
Plus the country’s own economic recovery is likely to have an effect on tourism this year. Despite a difficult 2010, tourism increased by 1.5% and revenue generated from this was up 4% by the end of the year. However, economics isn’t usually the catalyst for wanting to go on holiday abroad, it is the promise of discovery, adventure, glorious weather, amazing nightlife and uninterrupted relaxation. It’s a good job that Cyprus offers all of this then.
An Island Built in the Design of Aphrodite
Mythology dictates that Aphrodite, Goddess of beauty and love, is from Cyprus and it is easy to see her imprint on the island. In fact visiting Aphrodite’s Rock is said to be one of the best places to appreciate the island’s beauty.
Towns and resorts are built into the beautiful scenery and dramatic ruins and ancient architecture provides a window into the past. Saranta Kolones is a fine example of this. The ruined ancient castle has now been transformed into a museum documenting the islands chequered past.
Paphos Castle is a similar building and well worth a visit. Whilst these ancient buildings are part of the fabric of the country, it is the beaches that define many people’s visits to Cyprus.
Amazing Natural Shores
The beaches around Paphos are particularly appealing for holidaymakers. The soft, golden sands are hard to ignore, especially those of Coral Bay and Latchi Beach.
Yet a particular favourite for visitors arriving on cheap flights to Cyprus is Lara Bay, although be prepared to share the shore with loggerhead and green turtles.
The bay is affectionately known as Turtle Bay because of its residents and a sanctuary designed to protect the reptiles.
With such beauty in abundance it isn’t hard to see why the demand for flights to Cyprus from airlines like Jet2.com is on the increase.
