After 20 years, Laurel Crown is celebrating its position as an industry leader with a commanding online presence.

This Chippendale Side Chair has been a best seller since Laurel Crown's inception.

Until 2009, only a fraction of our profits were from online sales. Now online sales are upwards of 80% of our total sales.

When Laurel Crown's 20th Anniversary came to an end on the New Year, the San Mateo-based purveyor of antique reproduction and Victorian style furniture started counting its accomplishments. The family-owned business, which started as a furniture factory and became Laurel Crown in 1990, has spent the past two decades earning its spot as a profitable enterprise and respected industry leader with a commanding online presence that’s guiding their future.

"Laurel Crown started out as a small store front in San Francisco. We expanded to online retail in the late '90s and, after a site re-launch in 2009, that's where our bread and butter comes from," says Laurence Lok, Marketing Executive of Laurel Crown. Lok, who is also the son of Laurel Crown's owners Peter and Vivien Lok, explains that prior to the website re-launch, consignments were the company's specialty. "Until 2009, only a fraction of our profits were from online sales. Now online sales are upwards of 80% of our total sales. It's one of the best decisions the company has ever made."

After 20 years, Laurel Crown is anything but complacent. The company continues to explore a variety of ventures, both within the furniture industry and out. "We are always looking to expand and cultivate relationships with furniture designers and members of the trade," says Lok. "We're also excited to continue growing our business-to-business presence." To date, Laurel Crown has supplied furniture and furniture samples to commercial giants: Disney, The Spaghetti Factory, and Coach.

While the company's future goals are abundant, Laurel Crown is still rooted in its beginnings. "We have always been a family-run business, which has had a huge impact on our longevity and success," says Lok. "We know what our customers look for. The first chair we ever sold was a Philadelphia Chippendale Dining Chair with ball and claw feet. We still sell that chair. It's one of our most popular items."
