Swisslog, a leading provider of automated materials transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals, today announced it has named its new mobile drug cabinet, acquired as part of the purchase of Sabal Medical, Inc. last month, MedRover.
MedRover is a part of Swisslog’s medication management product portfolio, which also includes PillPick, BoxPicker, ATP High-Speed Packagers, Pick-to-Light Shelving, and Inventory Management Software. Collectively, these solutions streamline and optimize the operations of both in-patient and out-patient hospital pharmacies. From the packaging of bulk medications to storage, dispensing and logistics, Swisslog’s products help hospitals reduce or eliminate dangerous medication errors while improving the speed and efficiency of the drug supply chain.
“MedRover complements our vision of providing medication management solutions from the receiving dock to the patient’s bedside,” said Ben Hinnen, vice president of Swisslog’s Automated Drug Management Systems (ADMS) business unit.
MedRover is designed to reduce the medication retrieval and delivery burden of nurses. It is lighter, more maneuverable and stores more drugs than any COW (computer-on-wheels) on the market. MedRover provides secure delivery of medicine, including controlled drugs, and support of electronic medical records (EMRs) at the patient’s bedside, making it an ideal solution for hospitals that have an EMR solution as well as those still looking for one.
“All day, everyday nurses must obtain medications and supplies from multiple locations throughout a hospital,” said Charlie Kegley, president of Swisslog Healthcare Solutions North America. “Studies have shown that all this walking adds up to an average of six miles per day of wasted time and distractions, lessening the personal care patients receive. Nurse interruptions are well-known contributors to medical errors. MedRover reduces those interruptions by providing a mobile, secure and audited platform for medication administration.”
