The DETC is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency and is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

The Vice Chair is a senior officer of the DETC and is nominated and elected by DETC Commission members annually. The Vice Chair serves in place of the Chair of the Commission in his or her absence and acts for the full Commission in between regularly scheduled Commission meetings as necessary.

“Ms. Adams's election to this important national position is an indication of the faith and trust in her and in her institution, as expressed by her peers on the DETC Accrediting Commission,” said Mike Lambert, Executive Director of the DETC.

According to its website, “The DETC Accrediting Commission defines, maintains and promotes educational excellence in distance education institutions. The Commission is dedicated to fostering quality assurance, protection of the rights of the students and institutional self-improvement through voluntary accreditation via peer evaluation.”

“The election places Ms. Adams in a critical role in the higher education community. The experiences she will have as a result of this national role will certainly benefit the university and enhance its name recognition, its public acceptance and its growing prestige,” adds Lambert.

A leading online university offering undergraduate and graduate business, health care and IT degree programs, American Sentinel University has been nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council Accrediting Commission since 2000.

“American Sentinel’s Board of Trust, administration, faculty, students and staff are extremely proud of Mary’s contribution to our school and to DETC. She has worked tirelessly and effectively for both institutions. American Sentinel University’s long commitment to and Mary’s work for DETC are evidence of our school’s deep belief in the mission and value of DETC,” said American Sentinel University CEO, Rick Oliver.
