Top Chef Meals Readies to Cook for Thousands

Becomes a provider of emergency meals for the Greater New York Metro Red Cross Region.

Top Chef Meals, a Westchester County- and Manhattan-based creator of high-quality, nutritious, home-delivered gourmet meals, recently entered into a two-year contract with the American Red Cross Metro NY Region, which includes six Red Cross chapters—Greater New York, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Shelter Island and Greenwich, Connecticut—to serve as a major provider of emergency meals during a large-scale disaster.

Should a disaster hit the Red Cross Metro NY Region—be it a weather-related crisis or other large-scale incident—residents who are displaced from their homes could find themselves turning to the Red Cross for housing, food and other basic provisions. Top Chef Meals was selected for its ability to prepare and deliver meals to locations within the Metro NY Region. “Our planning efforts include identifying and contracting with catering operations that have the capacity to prepare large quantities of food to support large-scale emergencies,” said Sharon Hawa, Director of Mass Care and Sheltering for the American Red Cross in Greater New York. The Greater NY Red Cross is the Region’s lead Chapter; its jurisdiction includes the five boroughs of New York City and Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Rockland Counties. “In addition,” said Ms. Hawa, “Top Chef Meals founder Paul Ghiron has experience in the disaster response field and understands the immediate and ever-changing needs of a disaster scenario.”

With the recent expansion of its production, storage and freezer space, Top Chef Meals can handle 8,000 meals per day. The company will be able to respond to emergency needs quickly and seamlessly, without interrupting its day-to-day operations. “Top Chef Meals can prepare and deliver thousands of meals almost immediately if and when a large-scale disaster affects our region,” said Paul Ghiron, who is also president of corporate caterer and parent company Crystal Spoon Corp. “We look forward to supporting the Red Cross should our services be required to assist those in need.”

Top Chef Meals received the Best of Westchester Award for “Company With a Heart” from Westchester Magazine in 2010 and was acknowledged for its commitment to reducing hunger in county residents.
