The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, Suansangsun Nakhon-Bauwornrat, and Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives have cooperated together to organize the Phraboth Cloth Ceremony at the International Makha Puja Hae Pha Khuen That Festival at Nakhon Si Thammarat from 12-18 February, 2011, at Si Thammasokarat Park and Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan. Regarded as one the activities of Buddhist merit making, it should be performed once in a lifetime, and it is hoped to raise the activity as an international event. Moreover, it is hoped the festival will raise international awareness by inviting various countries to attend and increase the value of Buddhism-based tourism worldwide.
Mr. Suthep Keasang, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Nakhon Si Thammarat Office said ten other countries comprising Sri Lanka, India, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan will participate in this festival with the intention of being the city of pilgrimage for Buddhists to rank with other Buddhist holy places such as the sites of India, Anuradhapura and Polonaruwa in Sri Lanka and Shwedagon Stupa Yangon Myanmar and Phra Borom That Pagoda, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Different activities are provided such as a dhamma study on the land of Buddhism with Phra Maha Wudhijaya Vajiramehdi (W.Vajiramehdi). Worshipping the Phraboth and the painted story of the Lord Buddha from all regions and other countries. There will be an exciting procession of the Phraboth and the cooking of Madhupayat rice ceremony followed by celebrating with rituals of merit making with famous actors.
