“We selected qaOptimization™ because it was the solution that clearly supported Window Book’s quality program and conformed to our highest quality standards.” - Jeff Peoples, CEO, Window Book

Window Book, a leading provider of mailing and shipping software, announced today that its recent implementation of qaSignature’s qaOptimization™ solution has yielded a 290% increase in software development productivity over a six-month period. qaOptimization™ is a revolutionary cloud-based solution that delivers full regression testing for dozens of languages/platforms in less than 12 hours. Window Book originally selected qaOptimization™ to support their continuous quality improvement program; the dramatic development acceleration came as a welcome surprise to the Window Book development team.
“We selected qaOptimization™ because it was the solution that clearly supported Window Book’s quality program and conformed to our highest quality standards,” said Jeff Peoples, CEO of Window Book. “Of course, I understood that qaOptimization™ would shorten the product release cycle over time, but we were shocked to see results on this scale so quickly. Building a better quality product and doing it in a fraction of the time is a win-win situation for us and our customers.”
“We usually see improvements of this magnitude after a year or more,” said Vlad Shamis, CEO of qaSignature, “but to see an almost 300% increase in six months is amazing. In fact, we’re so inspired by their success, our new goal is to accelerate Window Book’s software development by 800% over the next six months.”
Developing software solutions around the United States Postal Service (USPS) can be a challenge, especially when the development-to-distribution window is constantly shrinking based on the finalization of new rules and/or prices compared to the implementation dates associated with those changes. With the announced price increase of April 17, 2011, and the schedule the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) needs for reviewing and deciding, there is usually only 45 days left to update software solutions before the mandatory implementation date. And for Window Book, any error in calculations—even a fraction of a cent—can end up costing their customers a significant amount of money. It’s this need to do extensive regression testing that makes it extremely difficult for Window Book’s developers to release products quickly. While Jeff Peoples was initially skeptical at qaSignature’s claims of full regression testing in 12 hours, that skepticism soon turned to optimism as the company released its DAT-MAIL™ product in record time.
“In the software industry, a bad release is very expensive to your reputation,” said Jeff Peoples. “Fixing a problem once it’s in the field is far more costly, both in terms of technical support and customer satisfaction. qaSignature helped us improve quality greatly without slowing down development. ”
In the past, speed and quality have been an either/or proposition; you get the one or the other, but not both with the same solution. qaOptimization is a new paradigm, however, that finds inspiration in the visionary philosophy of Dr. W.E. Deming, who first realized that changing the fundamental processes of business can improve product quality even as it accelerates the product development pipeline. qaOptimization is different than other solutions because it optimizes the entire software development process, yielding successively better results with each subsequent product release.
“When I talk to software company executives about optimizing their development process, some of them actually wince when I mention speed and quality in the same sentence,” said Vlad Shamis. “After ten years, I now warn them that they may want to sit down before we tell them what our solution can do. We’re very happy that Window Book decided to put aside those prejudices and give our solution a try. Judging by their latest product release, their customers are happy with that decision too.”
