The drifting scene is full of passionate and enthusiastic people. It's their input that brought this game to life
(PRWEB) February 10, 2011
In small town New Zealand most kids dream about being a rugby star, but there is another way out for glory: sideways. Drifting is a global phenomenon, one that thrills crowds with 200kph slides where drivers gracefully control what to the everyman is totally out-of-control.
Drift Legends for iPhone has accelerated to the top, bringing the thrill of sliding at high speed through a number of environments; the lush fields of New Zealand, the red dust of Australia, the crop fields and airbases of the UK, the stadiums and docklands of the USA, and finally the winding touges (mountain roads) of Japan where drifting began and its underground culture still exists.
Players will experience 25 tracks in five countries as they battle to become a drift legend. The tracks are rendered in their own distinct styles and are multi-layered; the car is able to pass under trees and streetlights.
Play begins with one unlocked car in New Zealand. As each track is completed with a bronze, silver or gold trophy, the next track is unlocked. Scores are sent to a global leaderboard per track and per car, and the top 1000 scores are viewable per track. Completing some tracks unlocks additional cars - there are three in total. Each car gets modified as the player completes levels in it, becoming faster with better handling. An instant replay feature shows the moment of glory – the highest score achieved for that track.
Bonus content is unlocked within the game – nine screen wallpapers of legendary drifting cars such as the Mazda RX-7, Nissan Silvia and Toyota AE86 – while players are accompanied by 15 original soundtracks from international artists such as Batucada Sound Machine, Anna Wilson and Siren Junkies (a feature uncommon in iPhone games).
Drift Legends jumped to the number one paid app in the racing segment in New Zealand just three days after its launch.
Supporting the game is a comprehensive fan site with level walkthroughs, background information, tips, tricks and cheats.
Executive Producer Darren Cottingham is proud of the industry involvement in the game. “We worked closely with the NZDrift Nationals and NZ Performance Car Magazine to ensure the game was true to drifting in real life. We spent a lot of time on the physics of the cars so they really slide.”
Editor of NZ Performance Car Magazine Peter Kelly is especially pleased with the result. “I want to play this game more than any other on my iPhone. It’s really captured what drifting is about and NZ Performance Car is extremely pleased with the result and the association.”
